swedish aspen -
a regenerative resource

Highly dedicated to providing quality products in a responsible manner, sustainability comes natural Sampo. This is why our matches are made from Swedish aspen wood.

A staggering 70% of Sweden’s surface is covered by deciduous forests. Aspen grows there, along with other trees, and the regrowth of Swedish aspen is far greater than the consumption. All Sampo matches are produced in Sweden and made from locally sourced aspen wood. A single log yields about 370,000 matches, which the average consumer would go through in about 1000 years.

Two trees for a tree

For every tree harvested in Sweden, at least two new ones are planted. Forestry stocks have doubled in less than 100 years, making Swedish forests a sustainable and renewable resource. Processing the trees and using the wood also helps to further preserve the carbon that they have stored while growing, since trees, if left to die and decompose, release their stored carbon back into nature.

“Aspen is a natural part of Swedish deciduous forests, along with other trees, and the regrowth of Swedish aspen is far greater than the consumption.”

To further shrink the carbon footprint, as much goods as possible are transported by train. Through innovation, education, regeneration, and leadership, Sampo is deeply rooted and connected to its heritage, while blazing a trail towards the bright future we believe in. It is simply nature, unmatched.
